Calgary “evil pop” / rock’n’roll four piece Black Earth released their second full length album entitled Constellations just over a week ago in their hometown. The record is a great combination of heavy riffagry, catchy hooks and the occasional Iron Maiden-esque double lead. While staying true to the established Black Earth style, this release also experiments with infusing new styles in the songs.

Track 4, The Vultures Tongue, hangs heavily on a swaggery blues rock riff riff before slowing it down a bit with Defy the Sky.
Catching Knives gives us a glimpse of the street punk sound that the band perfected in their previous records. The album closes out with a stripped down, spaced out piece putting the spotlight on the piano and vocals of Erika.

Constellations was recorded by Casey Lewis at Echonest Studios in Calgary. The tracks come through clean and powerful – capturing the live energy of the band perfectly.
