Following 2 critically acclaimed full length albums Washington’s RVIVR recently released their new EP Bicker and Breathe. We got our resident pop punk princess and RVIVR fan Marz to give us a track by track run down.
20 BELOW
Sounds like good old fashioned RVIVR that I love. The dude from Latterman has such a nice voice and the guitar tone is great. The lyrics are relatable, however I can’t picture myself getting high and really connecting to this song or their passions.
I feel like the chick is too screamy and forcful with her voice. She’s all like “LISTEN TO ME, IM A CHICK IN A BAND!” – you don’t need to shout, we can hear you.
GOODBYES
This one sounds too overly produced, like it’s aimed at trendy bike messenger looking hippies or something…
Also, that broads voice is very off in this song. Easily the worst song on the album.
IN WAVES
This one has the best intro and is best song on the album. I listened to this it a few times because it’s actually amazing…
The lyrics are awesome and that chick isn’t too overpowering in the mix. It’s nice and chill. I really connected to the lyrics and the music. The fun little sing along at the end will really be huge with the kids if they ever actually tour.
THE SOUND
The very beginning sounds fucked up… recording error? I like the guitar tone once everything kicks in.
The chick is trying too hard to show off her vocal range on this song – the LP was way better. Pretty good lyrics but I could do without the background vocals.
Second best song on the album.
BICKER/BREATHE
This is a shitty title track. I was expecting way more. Such obvious sounding RVIVR guitar riffs. It’s unclear and kinda noisy sounding…
Lame.
