The coke-head from the Barenaked Ladies said it – it’s all been done. All we have left is strange blends of musical styles and cultural references.
With that in mind, we bring you the inevitble Ned Flanders themed ‘Nedal’ band (see what they did there?) – Okilly Dokilly.
In terms of sound, Okilly Dokilly falls under what we like to call suburb-core metal. Sonic references to ‘metal’ like Alexis on Fire and Offspring style ‘punk’ are laced through these 4 tracks. They also manage to tip the hat to Horse the Band in “All that is Left” by dropping a synth into the mix while the acoustic guitar breakdown ensures you know they all own Tool t-shirts.
The most impressive part of this project is that they managed to find sweaters and pink dress shirts for everyone. Judging by the band photo they weren’t committed enough to drop the extra $40 each on matching pants.
H8ing on the lack of musical substance aside, this band has live appeal. Imagine yourself 11 PBR’s deep in an Arizona dive bar well after midnight. These sweaters step on stage and start screaming Simpsons references and for some hops fueled reason it all makes sense.
